For the second year running the West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street held his Mayor’s Community Weekend across the West Midlands with more than 160 events taking place, supported by over £80,000 of National Lottery funding.
Rushall charity Manor Farm Community Association’s event was called, ‘Memories throughout the Decades’ and celebrated local communities, the diversity within them and brought together local people from all walks of life to help build stronger community bonds and break down the barriers of loneliness, whilst boosting mental wellbeing. The event was a resounding success!
Member of Parliament Wendy Moreton attended the prestigious event and said, ‘I was pleased to be able to attend the ‘Mayor’s Manor Ball’ and enjoy ‘Memories throughout the Decades’ organised by Manor Farm Community Association. It was a lovely afternoon of music, entertainment and activities and I enjoyed chatting to so many local residents who were thoroughly enjoying the wonderful day.
It was good to see Manor Farm Community Association and their marvellous ‘Silver Service’ activities for older people being part of this Mayor’s Weekend. They do such a wonderful job and are well supported through the Community Fund in delivering much-needed services to older people in the town.’
The event celebrated the extensive work undertaken by over 143 volunteers with an ‘open invitation’ for others to join them as the local charity, established in 1977, makes a real difference to local lives in the borough.
Over 200 local people aged between 14 and 75 to attended and enjoyed lovely, old-fashioned entertainment at a traditional garden tea party with live music, demonstrations, workshops, stalls and plenty to eat and drink – all free of charge, funded through the Mayors Fund and the Community Lottery Fund.
Thank you to Wendy Moreton and of course our fabulous funders without whom we could not provide the service to those who need us most!
The Silver Service project for older people in Walsall is funded through the Community Fund for which Manor Farm Community Association express their sincere gratitude.
